Songs of Water & Spirituality

Margaret Magnus

By Margaret Magnus

Water is a life-giving force. And it’s frequently used as a spiritual symbol or metaphor — often in music.

To rejoice in successfully drilling a new well and finding a source of clean, drinkable water, Meher Mount is celebrating water in all its meanings and uses.

The “Songs of Water & Spirituality” playlist is a selection of songs in which water has a connection to the Divine.

The first set of songs in which water is used as a spiritual metaphor are available individually:

  • “Ocean of Love” lyrics and music by Bob Holdt, arranged by Debbie Nordeen, sung by Womansong of Asheville directed by Debbie Nordeen.

  • “Water So Sweet” written and performed by Roger Lee Lewis.

  • “Drowning” lyrics and music by Pat Donahue/Blue Sky Records - BMI, performed and recorded with permission by Julie Rust.

  • “You Are Like the Rain” lyrics and music by Bob Brown, arranged and performed by Larry Green. The video features photos and video segments of Meher Baba from the East-West Gathering.

  • “One with the Ocean” performed by Ron Greenstein from the album “Baba says…” Quotes attributed to Avatar Meher Baba and music By Ron Greenstein.

  • “The Water Song” composed by Alex Turtle, Diné (Navajo) and Southern Cheyenne, and Chenoa Egawa, Lummi and S’Klallam. It is sung in the Diné language and carries Native teachings about the blessing of the spirit of water through the male and female rains.

The second set of songs is available on the music streaming service Spotify. Click here to go to Spotify.
