Benefits of Being a Caretaker

"You are so lucky to be with me so closely..."
- Avatar Meher Baba at Meher Mount, 1956

Being a Caretaker Is a Calling

Volunteering as a Caretaker at Meher Mount is a calling. It is both demanding and very rewarding. Here are some of the rewards.

AVATAR MEHER BABA at Meher Mount in 1956 with co-founder and lifetime caretaker Agnes Baron. “You are so lucky to be with me so closely,” He said to His followers on that visit.

1. serve Avatar Meher Baba

"If you want Meher Mount, I will keep it for you through hell, fire and damnation!" Agnes Baron, co-founder and lifetime caretaker of Meher Mount, wrote to Avatar Meher Baba in 1952.

Meher Baba replied that she should keep it by all means, and He sent her His love.

Today's Caretakers continue Agnes Baron's legacy to preserve and keep Meher Mount in honor of Meher Baba.

2. Walk in Meher Baba’s Footsteps

"I love Meher Mount very much and feel happy here," Meher Baba said during His 1956 visit.

The atmosphere of His presence continually pervades Meher Mount. Meher Baba left "an invisible fountain of spiritual energy," said one of the visitors with Meher Baba in 1956. As a Caretaker you have the opportunity to be in this ambiance everyday.

3. Enjoy the beauty of unspoiled nature

Spend a day or two at Meher Mount and you will see the deer drink from the pond and the birds dine at the feeders or soar overhead. Occasionally, you will see a fox scurry across the property or spot a bobcat on the prowl.

Meher Mount is a semi-wilderness oak woodland that is home to butterflies, gophers, snakes, spiders, and a variety of native plants. As a Caretaker, you are part of this natural environment helping to preserve it for the wildlife.

"This land is very old, I have been here before," Meher Baba said.

4. Experience million-dollar views

"Now, go out and see the view the view and try to love Baba through nature. This is all due to My love...this whole creation, this nature, all the beauty you see, all came out of Me," Meher Baba told His followers in 1956.

Meher Mount is 172 acres at the 2,500-foot level of Sulphur Mountain with a 360-degree view that includes mountains, valleys, and the Pacific Ocean and Channels Islands. Movie stars pay millions of dollars to have a portion of this view. As a Meher Mount caretaker, these views are part of your daily experience.

5. Share Meher Baba's words and life

"You are so lucky to be with me so closely..." Meher Baba told those with Him in 1956. Each year, Meher Mount welcomes hundreds of visitors who are moved by their experience at Meher Mount.

As a Caretaker, you have the opportunity to welcome these visitors, share the history of Meher Mount, and share introduce Meher Baba, His words, and His life, often to a first-time visitor.

6. Be Part of Meher Mount’s Legacy

Each set of caretakers brings a unique set of skills that seem — in hindsight — destined to particularly fit that stage of Meher Mount's evolution.

What is the next stage? Only the Avatar knows. As Caretakers, you are part of the present and the future of Meher Mount.
